Lantern Making Competition

The Lantern Making Competition is back to give all a chance to showcase one’s creativity and skills in lantern making. Organised by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee, the competition is open to all.

And if you need some crash courses, check out the workshops on the art and skills of making lanterns which will be held at Kreta Ayer Community Club, Kim Seng Community Club and Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng constituency’s Residents’ Committee Centres.

Participation is free but pre-registration is required for all participations.

Lantern Painting Competition

Let the creative juices of your children flow! As part of the festival’s community outreach initiatives, we are inviting children and students aged 6 and below and between 7 to 16 years old to pit their skills against one another and showcase their artistic talents in a lantern painting competition.

The top 3 winners will each win a trophy and cash prizes. There will also be consolation prizes up for grabs!

Sponsored by Singapore Turf Club, the competition is organised by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee (KA-KSCCC) and co-organised by Life Art Society.

Festive Bazaar & Carnival

The full moon represents an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and prosperity. Chinese communities all over the world celebrate its appearance on this important occasion. During the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival, visitors can bask in the festivities, walk along the bustling festive street stalls and shop for festive goodies. Be spoilt for choice as over 300 festival stalls will offer a dazzling variety of festive treats like moon cakes, pomelos, lanterns, handicrafts, tea and more.

Opening and Light Up Ceremony

Date: 13 September 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 7.00pm – 10.00pm
Venue: New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street

The celebration for Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 will kick start with the highly-anticipated Opening Ceremony, which includes the Official Street Light-up, dragon dance performance, as well as an exciting line-up of multicultural song and dance performances by local and overseas troupes from Taiwan and China. Finally, catch the spectacular fireworks displays lined up for the grand finale!

Street Light-Up

Date: 13 September – 12 October 2015

Venue: Along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street , South Bridge Road and inner streets of Chinatown

Soak in the festivities and celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinatown, where traditional Chinese culture comes alive. Be enchanted by the flower-themed decorations of Chinatown as New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, South Bridge Road and the inner streets of Chinatown are adorned with colourful lanterns of varying shapes and sizes.

Nightly Stage Shows

Date: 13- 27 September 2015

Gather around for the nightly performances at Kreta Ayer Square during the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Even today, the Square remains a popular gathering point for local Chinese communities. Catch and be entertained by the animated and dynamic Chinese cultural acts, folk songs, and music and dance numbers by local entertainers and troupes from China.

Mass Lantern Walk

Date: 27 September 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 7.00pm – 10.00pm
Starting Point: Starting point – Kreta Ayer Square
Ending Point: Ending point – Along New Bridge Road (Main Stage in front of Lucky Chinatown)

Enjoy a fun night out with family and friends with your creative lanterns – or dress up as one! – as you join in the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 Mass Lantern Walk that is open to the public. Immerse yourself in the festive spirit as you soak in the leisurely-paced lantern parade procession under the full moon and the dazzling displays around Chinatown. Don’t forget the impressive acts of the dragon dance troupes, energetic cheerleaders and the percussion band along the way! The lantern walk will conclude with stage performances and pyrotechnics display in the heart of Chinatown.

Chinatown 1960s Fancy Dress Contest

Date: 26 September 2015 (Saturday)

Chinatown Mid Autumn Festival 2015 Organising Committee and Chinatown Business Association will jointly host the “Chinatown 1960s Fancy Dress Contest”.

This event is held in tandem with SG50 celebrations islandwide, bringing the old world charm back to Chinatown.

Watch as participants flex their creativity and imagination to dress up in their favourite 1960s outfit or costume on the first ever runway on Pagoda Street. Tourists and the young may experience and appreciate the evolving fashion trends and styles in Singapore’s 50 years of independence.

Pagoda Street will be transformed into a bustling carnival from 5pm onwards, with our very own roving 1960s characters giving away free sweets and balloons! Non-participants dressed in attire reflecting the 1960s era will also stand a chance to bring home limited edition door gifts (while stocks last).

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Walking Trail

Date: 19, 20 & 26 September 2015

Meeting Point: Information Booth in front of the stage at Kreta Ayer Square

The walking trail is free.
Registration is on first-come-first-serve basis.
Each trail is conducted in English and limited to 10 participants.

The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Walking Trail runs into its second year due to its popular demand. For this year, it covers two weekend and visitors can expect to discover how Chinatown is THE place to experience Mid-Autumn festivities.

With its strong heritage and character, Chinatown has become an enduring and iconic venue for locals and visitors to visit and soak in the Mid Autumn festivities and street decoration ambient during the celebration of this traditional Chinese festival. Discover Chinatown’s heritage and culture in this free walking trail that covers Kreta Ayer Road, Sago Street, Pagoda Street and New Bridge Road.

With “a Golden Jubilee Mid Autumn” as the festival’s theme, participants can embrace the bountiful photo opportunities as the streets in Chinatown will be decorated by lots of colourful lanterns for the Festive Street Light-Up. They can also shop for festive goodies at the bustling Festive Street Bazaar and Carnival and enjoy nightly cultural shows at Kreta Ayer Square.
