Themed “Galloping into the Prosperous Year” (万马奔腾, 喜迎新春), Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations come alive with vibrant displays and thoughtfully crafted elements that embody the energy and spirit of the Year of the Horse.
Drawing inspiration from the horse’s symbolism of vitality, resilience, and forward momentum, the celebration transforms Chinatown into a festive landscape of light, colour, and cultural artistry. Each installation and design detail reflects hopes for prosperity, progress, and renewed strength as the community ushers in a dynamic and auspicious new year.
Standing proudly at 8.8 metres, the majestic golden horse centrepiece rises as the focal highlight of the installation. Inspired by the intricate artistry of traditional Chinese paper cutting, its design is both elegant and commanding, capturing a sense of motion and refined craftsmanship. Encircling its base are four large woven baskets filled with orchids and peonies, forming a harmonious display of auspicious symbolism and heartfelt festive blessings.
Radiating outward from the golden horse, three surrounding sections unfold as a visual narrative, featuring a total of 60 horses and 48 fruits. The galloping horses surge dynamically toward the centrepiece, symbolising unity, aspiration, and collective progress.

At the entrance of South Bridge Road, the overhangs feature elegant decorative drapes as its main visual element, seamlessly blending cultural symbolism with refined aesthetics. Six carefully selected auspicious fruits, representing abundance and good fortune during the Lunar New Year, are presented alongside eight lanterns adorned with the sacred treasures of the Eight Immortals, symbolising prosperity and vitality.
Along the entrance to Upper Cross Street, the overhangs emit a gentle glow amid clusters of Singapore orchids. Symbolising beauty and resilience, the orchids reflect the nation’s distinctive spirit.
The overhangs along New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Seng Street are designed in gradient shades of purple and lilac, lending depth and dimension to the overall installation. Soft paper-cut silhouette details along the lantern edges further accentuate the elegance of traditional artistry. Vibrant layers of red drapes, complemented by Singapore orchids and tropical plants, come together to create a harmonious and meaningful cultural expression.
Collectively, these elements intertwine to create a captivating interplay of light and shadow, vividly conveying a vision of unity and prosperity, while immersing visitors in the rich and joyous atmosphere of the Lunar New Year.
