Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2021 Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony

In view that we are still in the midst of fighting Covid-19 and to avoid any crowd gathering, Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2021 Official Light-up and Opening Ceremony will be launched virtually and live streamed on Chinatown Festivals Facebook Page. The launch event will also feature lion dances, cultural and acrobatic performances.

Date: 23 January 2021 (Saturday)
Time: 8.00pm – 8.50pm

Street Light-Up

This year street light-up will feature sculptured lanterns of the Ox, gold coins, golden ingots, flowers and greetings, etc., combining traditions with modern design, visitors will be enthralled by the creativity of the contemporary street light-up design.

The Chinatown Chinese New Year street light-up along South Bridge Road, New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street will not be turned on from 5 to 7 February and 11 February.

Chinese New Year Short Films

Enjoy three specially produced short films featuring renowned Chinatown Merchants such as Bee Cheng Hiang, Kele and Spring Court. The short films will bring the audience through a journey on the preparation of various Chinese New year’s delicacies and how these delicacies came to be associated with the festival and traditions.

Chinese New Year Festive Goodies Workshop

Interested to learn how to bake Kele’s signature pineapple ball? You can learn all these from our virtual workshop that will be live streamed on our Facebook Page. Purchase your baking kit curated by Kele before 23 January at to enjoy a hands-on experience during the live stream!

Chinatown CNY2021 Online Activities

A series of giveaway activities and interesting content to learn about and celebrate our Chinese New Year and traditions.

There will also be a photo collage activity that will be taking place in early February for some family-bonding fun!

360 Virtual Tour and Heritage Trail

Chinatown 360 Virtual Tour is back for a second edition, featuring the Chinatown CNY Street Light-up as we celebrate the Year of the Ox.

In addition, you can also enjoy the virtual Heritage Trail, where our volunteer guides will bring you through various points of interests in Chinatown.
